a cool woman with fire
friday we met a cool woman named lianne who performs with "fire chains", and is also a cliff climber. she came from arnhem. we met outside the back of centraal station. none of us knew what each other would look like, and she didn't have her phone with her -- we just knew to look for someone who would look like they were looking for the other. it turns out she has a great look, very beautiful and tough with short blonde hair.
we took the ferry to noord, the NDSM eiland where shipbuilding used to happen. ap had already scouted the location. amazing place, i hope they don't pretty it up too much. in my five years of living here i had never been on the ferry before. it's free of charge.
it was gray dusk and we filmed lianne playing with fire against a barren horizon with one huge crane silhouetted at one side. i had one white balance setting for 3200, so i left it there so the sky would look deep blue, and her face would still look warm because of the firelight being more like 2400. the shots came out just as i had pictured them in my mind.
then we went to a restaurant called "noorderlicht" and ate pompoensoep, and took care of our paperwork.
then on the ferry ride back we were talking about a somalian man lianne knows who is mentally screwed up by war. the authorities will not give him a residence permit, nor will they send him back to somalia because it's assumed he would die there. i said something about how unfair i think nations are, and the fire lady said she feels the same way.
i am now almost done with the "she is" movie, i hope to finish that tonight and then concentrate on the documentary.
