we saw isaura
when i went upstairs at around 07.00 sunday morning, i found to my happiness that not only marina got home safe, she had brought isaura with her. she who keeps changing phones so it's hard to get in touch with her. hug, "i miss you" i said. "really?" she said, as if that surprised her. the two women were scavving the party bones. marina gave isa some of the vegetarian mousaka she had made, then went to pour her a drink from the pitcher of jk's kiwi daiquiri, and i called out from the kitchen doorway: "be careful, the lid is loose", but i guess i didn't say it fast enough. so then there was a big puddle of creamed kiwi all across the kitchen counter. i got busy cleaning that up because i figured it would be quite sticky later in the day.
then the two women went to stare at the fish tank in the living room. which is how i left them. supposedly staring at fish tanks is therapeutic for people who have recently been to a goa trance party. wink wink.
yesterday afternoon one of the neighborhood cats was again poking around under the back porch here -- and was suitably shocked when i meowed to him through the basement window. it must be mindblowing to suddenly see this human head staring at you from where you really hadn't expected one. the cat stared transfixed back at me, didn't know what the hell to do. after a few minutes i went back to watching bbc.
last week i did some brochure writing and composed a movie-style-guide for my biggest client -- and also pitched the idea of building two duplicate media systems one in america and one here. meanwhile with dvr's help i have caved and ordered a laptop macintosh (macbook pro 17 in), so that when i need to travel again i will still be able to do *some* work. i'd been putting off the laptop thing, i really don't like them, but i guess i need one. supposedly the device will arrive in about 3 weeks' time.
also, i am "collating" the media for the existing product films. most of the product movies were made in groups with other projects, so for example i have one giant project "rsna06". now i am separating the comps from the bigger projects into smaller projects, and copying the used media to a folder specific for each project. even if this means some media files are duplicated, i think it's important to set each project as a standalone thing that can be opened later without tedious rethreading. but it's very time consuming because for some reason the "collect files" function isn't working any more on my version of AE. so i have to copy and rethread the files manually. i got three projects done on saturday and another two sunday. as far as i can tell, there are thirteen in all. i am hoping this will lead me to a situation where i can properly back up *all* the movies i've done for my biggest client.
i have decided that pani ani needs, soon, a web site where she can load and display her photos. she's got a growing pile of very cool shots that need somewhere to live. there's one whole collection of really good photos of jl, she could publish a coffee-table-book of jl portraits.
i spent some time looking at vincent and nicole's picture-blogs this morning. i'm beginning to worry about those two. it seems to me they spend an inordinate amount of time at ikea. we all know the story: first the people disappear to a faraway land, then they get involved with ikea, then before you know it they're hooked on heroin ...
