"golden pauw", glasbak, ophelia, van meene
saturday evening we dined at the chinese restaurant around the corner on jan evertsen, its name being a curious collision: de golden pauw. geen goudene pauw, hoor, letterlijk "de *golden* pauw". the food was decent but kinda mild i thought. like they had taken szechuan ideas and north-europeanized them.
today djox helped me get rid of some of the glas that has been piling up on jk's back porch. i think we ditched about half of it in the local glasbak.
then isaura showed up. she wanted to see a particular painting by john everett millais, depicting ophelia floating. so we went to the van gogh museum, where i'd never been before in all my years.
on the way to the tram i phoned pani to ascertain that she had arrived safely in poland.
so, how now ophelia. it was a pretty good painting. millais is a pretty good painter.
in the downstairs shop they were also selling books of helen van meene's photographs. that made me feel like a smarty, cuz when we were first walking in i saw an ophelia-like image on the wall and said "hey that looks like one of helen van meene's pictures", and then it turns out i was right, they were selling her books there. amazing photographer. so anyway that made me feel like a smarty.
we'd gotten a bit of a late start, and i needed to finish the first draft of this script for [s] so i left to go home before we'd explored all the exhibits. i hope they aren't mad at me, i know sometimes people can be kinda samen-uit-samen-thuis about things.
a lot of people don't work on sundays at all. for example, on my way home i found out that my local appie here ain't open sundays. that surprised me cuz the one where i used to live was open every day. i had to go to the avond winkel across the street, which was probably a good idea, it's good to try new things and places.
this evening i did some laundry, much needed.
then i finished the first draft of the script, which i'd promised for tomorrow. it is sent. i think it's pretty clean and direct, i hope it stays that way.
now i'm hungry. maybe i will eat a sliced chicken sandwich.
