a pesky flash of greed, a wave of turmoil
we were scheduled to do some filming with kids yesterday in a big countryside park in carlisle. but we decided to postpone.
on saturday night, some unkind person stole my beloved's handbag and jacket from the back of her chair at a cafe. when she turned to grab them they had been removed. those were her favorite new bag from dom in the nz voorburgwal, and her nice jacket she'd also got in amsterdam.
and then she was suddenly without keys, mobile phone, credit and bank cards, driver's license. she couldn't even get back into her apartment until after 02.00 when a friend brought her the extra key. she could not get to our shoot on time, and some of our props were still in her car. now she needs to get the car alarm disabled before she can drive it. she's hoping that can happen today, but today she has to be working on a tv commercial.
not being a woman, i can't easily imagine how it really feels to have your handbag stolen.
when bad things like that happen to my beloved, i feel awful that i'm not there and can do nothing to help her. i keep thinking that if i had been there, maybe the bad thing wouldn't have happened. and i'm sitting right here in massachusetts, but out in the middle of nowhere with no way to get to her -- so close yet so far. for all the good i could do, i might as well have still been in europe.
so someone's flash of greed led to a wave of disruption in all our lives. and all that for a net gain of maybe $75 cash.
there are two reasons why this bad thing may have actually been good for the film. one, sunday was rainy and windy because of a nearby passing category one hurricane, so the nature park where we'd be filming would have been soaked and not fun. two, reviewing the exisitng footage i realize we have plenty of footage filmed in parks and countryside already. so i should really be doing the remaining shots in different environments.
we took the time to do selects from all the shoots, and revise the script with them in mind, so we'd know what shots we still really want.
