nederland has a surface area = 33,883 km2.
it is thus smaller than maine = 86542 km2.
maine's total population = 1317207, versus NL total population = 16440113
which means maine is outnumbered over 13 to 1 by nederlanders.
maine has an average population density of 16 people per km2,
nederland has 396 people per km2.
but maine is mostly forest. some parts of it have no municipalities and very few people at all. up north the "northwest aroostook" has an area of 6910 km2 and a population of 27. so the population density there is 0,003907381 person per square kilometer. i think that's slightly more than one fingernail per km2.
so if it ever came to war, the dutch could likely vanquish the people of maine -- but only if they can find them first.
