les parapluies de cherbourg
feeling kinda under the weather. i think i should not go out today. i hope i feel okay tomorrow.
i fell asleep with tv on, was awakened by a sort of film operette on one of the belgian channels. it's a restoration of les parapluies de cherbourg (the umbrellas of cherbourg) from 1962, by jacques demy, score by michel legrand. was part of a trilogy with lola (1961) and les demoiselles de rochefort(1967).
two of the songs from les parapluies sounded familiar to me, cuz they were made into popular english language songs in the 1960s.
it was the second time i've seen a french musical movie like this where the people sing all the dialog in recitative style, ie the whole film is music. the other thing i saw was more modern, so i figure people still do this once in a while.
