monday's finished, it's thursday now
i had quite a chill when i came home wednesday night from hg's. it's been damp and chilly instead of really cold, plus i gave away my best scarf last week so i think i've been personally chilled. hg made a nice dinner of super-gwompkies and vegetable mushroom soup. i took the 7 there and back, which helped chill me even more with the standing out in the damp wind.
when i got home my two housemates and one of our neighbors were sitting here tapping into the big bottle of rakia from pomorië. i tried a little of it too, but just a little. if there were any layers of paint lining my stomach, i think they're gone now.
i'm kinda worried about my sister liz in new hampshire. she came down with serious gut problems similar to what other people i know (jud for example) have complained of. she couldn't eat, had trouble keeping fluids etc, and this went on for several days. last i heard, the hospital folks wanted her to come back, but she didn't have enough energy to drive herself to the hospital. that was the last i heard. i'm assuming her housemate is at least keeping an eye on her. but i'm kinda worried.
i just deleted what i wrote here monday night, cuz upon reading it, i was unable to grasp what the hell point i was trying to make. i think i was going on about being lovelorn and stuff. so here i'm gonna record what really happened monday. and for the future i'm gonna get one of those USB breathalizers and hook it up to this php script.
as i mentioned elsewhere, i went with djox to film bands last thursday at panama and saturday night at the cave. saturday i only really liked one of the bands, moon addict. i was planning to go back to eijlders on monday, and told a few people i would be there.
i went to eijlders right after my script telephone meeting with jab, and got there at about 18.00. pretty soon ted and holly came -- a nice couple who seem to be approaching 60 years. we had never met in person. they said they had wanted to meet me cuz they were influenced by things i wrote. they sell rocks for a living, and live on a houseboat over in the jordaan. then some of my friends started showing up, we had kh and hg and dvr and marina and pani (who had just returned that day from her research trip to budapest) and joanna and djox and denis (djox's childhood friend and co-yugodammer). so there was quite a pile of us hanging out there for a while. someone on facebook had mentioned that it was my birthday, so people kept telling me happy birthday. so even though i don't normally celebrate my birthday, i kinda ended up celebrating it involuntarily, or accidentally.
the owner, mijnheer patrick, showed up, and i told him that (thanks to pani's quick antiquariaat action) i'd got hold of a copy of the autobiography of eijlders. which i'm really enjoying by the way.
at some point all of our nonsmoking friends had left, so the rest of us retired to what i wanna call the smoquarium, the narrow smoking area in the front with glass on three sides. then marina went next door to the bar called the water hole, to buy more cigs.
she came back with a pretty girl named deva, the one who sings amazingly. i had met her once at a party here at jk's house. her voice is so powerful and clear and full of spirit, she's like a mislaid popstar, like her tour bus and all her entourage accidentally drove off without her.
she and marina got to singing bulgarian songs together even though deva isn't bulgarian. then djox and marina and denis were all singing that saint george song which is almost the same in bulgarian and serbocroatian. the remaining kelner told us we needed to quiet down cuz it was late. i think we had pestered the staff at eijlders long enough, it was time to go. at that point i should have actually gone home, but because i was sitting next to a charming pretty girl i decided to stay out. so we went to the cave for one drink, then we walked back to the waterhole.
deva was a few steps ahead of us as we were arriving at the waterhole, and by the time we got inside she was already on stage singing with a band. i think it was open mike night or something. i had at least one more beer, maybe two. i think at some point deva was sorta dancing with me, kinda, or at least i remember she was rubbing her ass against me (i don't forget things like that). i enjoyed being in physical contact with a pretty girl again even just for a moment. while this was going on, i think my other two friends were getting into one of their typical late night quarrels. so finally it began to feel like time to go home.
as we were leaving i noticed that i could not walk in a straight line. it's a good thing i didn't need to walk in a straight line. marina and i got a taxi home. i was sorry that deva didn't come with us, because back in the haunted recesses of my brainstem i secretly wanted her and marina to become lovers. that's how it works with me: if i find a woman attractive, i want her to hook up with the woman next to her. i'm always spontaneously inventing new lesbians — which doesn't seem to go over all that well with the existing bisexuals in my circle of friends. i think this happens because i feel i'm incapable of being with a woman myself.
once we got home, marina immediately set about making dinner. in retrospect i think it might have been wise if i had eaten dinner before going out and drinking, but better late than never right. we ate bulgarian treats and talked and smoked cigarettes for a while. marina suggested that the reason i lost my true love must be because at some point i did or said something that really hurt her, even if she never revealed to me what that was.
then shortly before dawn, it dawned on me that i needed a mission-critical sleep period so i could get up at 12.00 and make my business meeting at 14.00.
when i woke at 12.00 i found an sms saying that meeting was really at 13.00. yikes. so i had to move quick. had a good and instructive meeting with vl and our client, whose office is near the nederlandse bank.
i still haven't captured any of the video i shot last week, or any of the video marina shot in bulgaria. i need to fire up the raid and get that going. i also have some web site work to do, and some work to do for jab, i think. and some invoices i need to send out. and some administration to work on. and a screenplay to rewrite.
