made it to holland alive
so i made it to holland alive, with most of the stuff. aj and rob came with me to the airport, thank god, cuz i needed another bag and help redistributing my stuff to get the big bag under the 70 pound limit. otherwise my excess baggage charges would have been like $450 instead of just $90. aj and rob also planned to evacuate the remaining stuff i left there -- d's shredder, lamp, the box of clothes i couldn't bring, and lots of little miscellaneous odds and ends.
mgas found me at the airport and drove me here and made coffee, showed me a thing or two about the house, then left for a flight to somewhere. it was funny, the way she drove here was exactly as i imagined it when looking at the map on my own. she says lgf likes to go a different way, but sometimes that's crowded w traffic.
around 930 am i phoned aj as promised, woke her up and spoke to her briefly, then left voice mails for jenny and d. there was a voicemail for me from max cardozo in costa rica. then i phoned hg and woke him up too. he took down my number and said he'd call me later.
it's raining outside. the view is of endless low lying brick blocks. rising in the distance, a windmill, and off to the right of that, the airport tower. the hood isn't much to look at. but the flat itself is nice, more spacious than i remembered it. the balcony off the kitchen is especially cool. there's a sort of awning you can roll down over it by twisting a big long handle.
i've staked out the "guest" room for myself cuz it already has a little desk in it. got the computer gear mostly hooked up. big old power converter seems to be working fine. the wacom is working too, so the usb hub must be working. i haven't tried the firewire drives yet.
feels like maybe i can relax now. take the weekend to get lonely, then call my lawyer on monday.
night
wow i just heard a huge explosion off to the south. wonder what that was it's 22.40 on 03 january 2003. long echoing crash/blast.
by the way, i have been seeing lots of spent firework detritus lying on the sidewalks, as i was walking to the c1000 in ecuplein. ecuplein is where the shopping center is.
