the dark time is here
at this time of year the sky is only turning light around 08.00, which is really 09.00 but we've set our clocks back an hour. it's been kinda cold, but fortunately marina went out and bought me a pal scarf to replace the one i gave to mr baker (i was tired of wearing a bright green one).
last night i took henryk and helena to dinner at a restaurant called "de smoeshaan" next to the bellevue theater on leidsekade. a couple doors away from the american hotel dus. henryk remembered the place from when he was acting briefly in theater. vervolgens we went for a drink at eijlders, but i could only stay for one because i had gotten quite sleepy, i guess from the pasta / pesto thing i ate.
one thing i think chefs ought not to do, is mix vegetables in with pasta. vegetables are good, and pasta is good, but it's a lot more enjoyable to eat them separately. this in the "don't mess with comfort food" category, like how i used to lament about the way some restaurants in boston would get creative with mashed potatoes.
this morning i am again working on a replacement for *this* web site. i made some progress with the simplified design strategy, and i think i'll try to implement at least the menu part soon.
tonight i am supposed to be going to dinner at a place on haarlemmerdijk that i've never been to before. rosereijn, it's called.
