treinbotsing in belgië
parool reports there's been a frontal collision between two passenger trains in the area of halle, in belgium. serious injuries, they don't know yet how many or how this could have happened.
parool also reports that a lot of no-name (merkloos) beer is being sold in amsterdam as heineken. that your chance of drinking a real heineken in the leidseplein area is about fifty-fifty. other brewers both dutch and german are selling cheaper beer into the amsterdam horeca, and the bar businesses are saving money by passing it off as the real thing. this kinda makes sense to me, too, cuz it happens to me pretty often that i order a beer in a strange place and it tastes kinda funny to me.
another story: mayor cohen announces the verdict of an investigation by the gemeente: amsterdam is not truttig after all. man that's a relief.
after midnight that night: NOS news says there were at least 18 deaths in the belgian train accident southwest of brussel, and 80 injured. a train the was going one way on time, collided with a 10-minute delayed train going the other way. they think one of the operators didn't see a red light.
