even more senseless english loanwords
a headline in parool today says Lijsttrekkers Amsterdam clashen over onderwijs (party leaders in amsterdam clash over education). yesterday a politologist on tv was talking about the issues that broke up the recent balkenende coalition govt. i kept wondering -- i mean, i understand why the dutch don't need their own native names for recent phenomena (hiphop, blu-ray, etc). but haven't they had politics in holland for a really long time now? don't they already have proper dutch words for "clash" and "issue" ? yeah man so what is these tv people's purpose in using english loan words where they're not needed? do they think it makes them sound, uh, smart or something?
[a while later]
kees said he thinks it could just be people looking for an alternate word for something that gets used a lot.
