going on a 'road trip'
tomorrow i leave with daniel and nicole in a hired car, and may return to amsterdam as late as 18 may. a road trip, dus.
the idea, believe it or not, is that we will stay mostly in camping sites with our little tents and sleeping bags. for me this is a little scary; last time i went bumming transeurope was when i was 17, when all this would be merely thrilling. it feels scarier at 52. but this time i am not travelling alone.
we plan to drive through germany to the schwarzwald, then through switzerland to interlaken, then proceed through to italy. we think we will visit genova, and then make our way down the west side of italy, maybe touching orvieto, and ultimately going as far south as roma. we also hope to meet up with olia tchalakova somehow; she lives in milano, which would be a bit of a jag left or right from our trajectory, so we're not sure how to schedule that. once having got to roma, we were then thinking of crossing to the adriatic side and maybe getting to venezia. nicole and i even had the mad thought to go around from there to the town of pula in croatia, where nicole has some family.
but we have no fixed itinerary, except that nicole should be in frankfurt by 17 may.
it's possible we will have little or no internet access while we are away.
