chronicle of trip to rome
25 apr 2010 we drove from amsterdam NL to brienz CH near interlaken, stayed at camping 'seegärtli'.
26 apr 2010 we stayed another night in brienz.
27 apr 2010 drove through gstieg, aigle, martigny, st bernhard, reached mediterranean at savona, through genova, down to bogliasco camping 'genova est'.
28 apr 2010 stayed at bogliasco. dining and drinking at on-site restaurant 'nuvole di pinte'. elena and andrea. full moon. tooth ache.
29 apr 2010 found paneterria at bogliasco, bought bread, drove into genova with daniel and walked around. evening hang again at nuvole di pinte.
30 apr 2010 drove south along ligurian coast with lots of tornanti, hairpin switchback roads, to levanto, camping 'campeggio san michele' near cinque terra. only about 90 km south of where we started, but took four hours to drive here. the owner is a woman named nadia, with her boy gabriel, and her mom and dad. husband died two years ago of infarct.
01 may 2010. drove to monterosso, too many people there, bolted, spent some time in town of levanto.
02 may 2010 rain. in the afternoon we drove high up and caught the a12 toward san gimignano. found camping just past san gimi, a more luxuriant campsite, full of rain when we arrived.
03 may 2010 visited walled medieval town of san gimignano.
04 may 2010 more rain. drove from san gimignano to roma. found our way to piazza della rotonda (where the pantheon is) and checked into hotel 'albergo del sole al pantheon'. i was put in room 102 where jean-paul sartre stayed while writing his rome lectures in the early 1960s. dinner w daniel at ciro e ciro, nicole stayed in.
05 may 2010 walked to colosseum. dinner again at ciro e ciro.
06 may 2010 walked to fontana di trevi. hung around piazza della rotunda. in evening found bazek and had dinner ... at ciro e ciro.
07 may 2010 left rome, drove north to orvieto, bought wine and had lunch there, pushed on to a bed & breakfast called 'casale ginette' near firenze.
08 may 2010 drove north to rozzano (a south suburb of milano) and met olia tchalakova for drinks. then drove north into switzerland where in the evening, again in pelting rain, we found the last room at hotel restaurant 'l'aigle' in villeneuve, next to montreux. went out drinking there.
09 may 2010 visited montreux, then drove north all the way to amsterdam, pausing for a bokwurst at a service station along the DE autobahn. got back to amsterdam at around 21.30 u, paused to buy some KFC and beer on the way to the house.
