equinox
i guess today is the autumnal equinox. it's been a mild day, not cold.
while i was finishing project 'imrs', pani and victor went first to torino and then to paris to film some interviews for a new filmpje for MBC. today i was exporting the french interviews to mini quicktimes to aid translation to english so we can edit. that project is one of about nine things i have to do for MBC this fall, some big some little. also, on a phone meeting they asked me to send an invoice for 20 percent of a job that won't even start until december. cuz they need to ditch some money from their budget before the fiscal year ends.
george came over to see us yesterday. he thought i should write more in my journal, and i agree. i've been too much facebooker and not enough diarist.
also yesterday, pani ani returned from paris, took tram straight to our hood, and we ate at the pauw and drank at the stoplicht. marina joined us for a while. then we went to bother jk.
today kees showed me a handy language-translation web site called nice translator. i added it to my links page under 'reference'.
google is in hot water for 'accidentally' mopping up private wifi data as its 'streetview' trucks drove through various cities. they're blaming it on one rogue engineer.
i have been again struggling with my essay 'on the fate of knowing'. hoping to finish it in time for issue 017 of mental shoes. i keep writing down lots of ideas but it's hard to sequence them sensibly so i'm making an actual argument instead of a bunch of random observations. finally this morning i felt like i had turned a corner on that. but i have other work to do as well, obviously.
something cool happened: some guy in brasil actually emailed 'editor@mentalshoes.com' and contributed a drawing-poem thing. we very seldom get correspondence.
the next issue of mental shoes is gonna be at least 120 pages long. we skipped a month of production cuz i was too damn busy at the end of august, and so was dhd. so there's a lot of stuff. among other things i'm very pleased that we'll have a bunch of new marker paintings from djox. the cover of this issue is also unique.
i notice i'm kind of afraid of girls lately, like i don't wanna scare them. i saw myself in the mirror this morning, i'm pretty freakin scary looking.
the other night i was watching a 1962 godard film called 'le mépris', starring brigitte bardot. i realized that brigitte bardot at that age looks a little bit like jennyie kapitein does now. different mouth, but there's a similarity in the eyes and general shape. there was also a short documentary about the crazed papparazzi risking life and limb to get telephoto pictures of BB during the shoot. i thought it would be cool to have a character whose grandfather died trying to get a picture of brigitte bardot. it turns out bardot in later years (she's like 75 now) has become a bit of a hater. she doesn't like france being overrun by muslims, and keeps having to pay hefty fines for saying racist things in the press.
now i am gonna grab a little more sleep. feeling a little antisocial, well not exactly, just kinda withdrawn maybe.
