red sludge in hungary
bbc: recently at a toxic waste dump in hungary, a big reservoir burst, releasing 700000 cubic meters of poisonous red sludge into surrounding communities and rivers. the waste was from a company called MAL which processes bauxite to make aluminum oxide. it's located not far from austria, slovenia, slovakia. people were worried that some of the poison would flow with tributaries into the donau. now they're less worried about that, and more worried that the sludge will turn to poisonous dust and be carried away by the winds.
i sent a request to jaap to change the folder location and email routing for mental shoes, and also to register several domains for me, including one i can use for a new web magazine when i'm ready.
lots of going out lately.
on friday pani and i went to schiphol to meet with pam, who was passing through from rwanda to boston. in the airport shopping ctr we stopped to buy some stuff at HEMA. my phone rang and it was wendy calling to see what my dinner plans were. i ended up at tong ah with wendy, vincent, kees and marjolein. wendy showed me how there's a chinese menu separate from the regular menu, with different dishes on it. i tried one called ma po to fu, number 630.
saturday night at bombay with dvr and erin, then went to eijlders. i was outside smoking, and habib was doing his customer-attract thing for the indian restaurant next door. but then at one point he said 'good evening, here is eijlders, very nice café, i'm the pakistani guy.' i laughed my ass off. in fact i kinda do think of habib as the pakistani guy who stands outside eijlders. later that night i felt a bit of what they used to call 'acid indigestion' on tv.
note to self: don't follow chicken vindaloo with 2 bottles of westmalle triple and two cups of coffee.
tonight pani says she wants sushi; tomorrow i'm to meet ewa; tuesday maybe go out with habib.
