today demonstrations
today the english defence league are supposed to have their pro-wilders demonstration on the generatorweg out in the westelijke havengebied, north of station sloterdijk. ajax fans have been called up to counter-demonstrate saying they will not tolerate racism in our city. people think it may turn into battles.
last night after dinner with victor at tong ah, i went to the cave alone for a pint. but it turned out jovanka was there, then isaura and djox and joana and tommy and helena showed up too. i was pleasantly surprised. got home late, so i didn't get my laundry from jon's place until this afternoon.
from what i hear, the shoot in america went well. pani should be returning here on monday i think -- with the data from the shoot.

later: as for the demos, looks like a bit of a tempest in a teapot. the right wingers, having being banned to the middle of nowhere, were only present in a couple of dozen. but many many riot police sealed off the metro station to prevent ajax hooligans from coming to confront them. at5 says there were total 37 arrests.
the anti-fascist/anti-racist demonstation across town in j d meijerplein looked pretty thick, and apparently went off without any trouble.

this evening we met jud crane at mulligan's, he came with a pile of airline people. ended up dining at de nachtwacht. an inexperienced waitress there got a few things wrong with the sudden table of 11 (no reservation). some miscommunication or misunderstanding re what people ordered. notably forgetting to bring the finger-washy bowls for those who asked for ribs, and having to be asked twice to go get them. one guy who had asked for lamb got ribs too, and she tried to convince him to eat it rather than just take it back and replace it.
