tram trouble tuesday
at5: around six o'clock this past tuesday evening, a tram cable broke in leidseplein. this made other cables hang loose in three other places, so those trams couldn't run either. in two cases the hot wires even started fires in the trams. so a great deal of tram traffic in the city went dead for several hours. finally got repaired and back to normal around ten in the evening.
also, next tuesday the gemeente plans to clear out around ten squatters' buildings in amsterdam. in some places the local residents are in favor of it, because the kraakpanden look terrible and the people who live in them are not pretty. but also cultural center 'schijnheilig' is scheduled to be cleared. there are hundreds of squats in the city, and they're scheduling them for clearing in order of urgency. so the schinheilig guys don't understand why they're on top of the list, because they 'do no fly evil.'
