ketelaar trip
tuesday pani and i visited the NL national archives, with a manuscript of ketelaar loaned from the library at utrecht by dr jaski. pani wanted to know what was written under two stripes of black ink obviously meant to obscure or redact something. a big machine is at the restoration and preservation atelier, which scans documents with many discrete wavelengths of light, and differences them to reveal detail. using this gadget, the scientist roberto paduan was able to show us what was written under the ink: it said 'jan josua ketelaar'. i filmed part of this and it was cool. victor gave us a ride there in his car. we also got to see joana who works in the same atelier.
