more stuff i remember
i remembered something else from my childhood: 'horlicks'. it was a chocolate powder to stir into milk. i loved that stuff. under the cover, the jar was sealed by a thin cover of paper that i had to break open, which released the chocolatey scene. horlicks is also important because i was just starting to read, and noticed there was an r in it that my mother didn't pronounce -- she called it 'hollicks' because she had a new england accent. so it was one of my first clues that my family and i didn't speak standard network english.
another thing, did i mention this already? 'loretta young theater'. a tv show with the actress loretta young.
