what kind of socialism
here's what i was thinking: what kind of socialism is it which insists that people may not trust each other? that's fucked up. look, your plicht komt niet van boven, het komt van binnen. toch? het is wel mogelijk dat mensen, onder elkaar, gewoon goed kunnen zijn. zonder hulp van enig vorm van overheid. tenzij je gelooft dat mensen niet onder elkaar kunnen handelen. en dan is het echt geen socialisme. socialisme zonder vertrouwen tussen mensen is geen socialisme. trust me. we can live together without passing a law to make it possible.
i was infuriated by the news story about the loss of buying power next year in NL, which brought attention to a family of five in a nice house who go for three weeks on vacation and send their kids for horseback riding lessons, as an example of who's suffering from the economic crisis. i see two possibilities, one, the poor will suffer but they don't wanna talk about that, or two, the poor will not especially suffer, so the had to talk about a suburbanite family with too many kids. and oh shit their koopkracht might shrink by a few hundred euros this year?
have these people never been freelancers? are they really truly fretting about whether their kids might have to sacrifice some of 'the nice things'?
if that's what everybody's really worried about, then [a] they should stop calling it a crisis and [b] they should take a one week vacation in the hunger winter, just to remind them what dutch pride in survival was supposed to be about.
