the object you're looking at is inscribed with your observation
just awoke from a dream in which my mother opined that 'no matter what you're looking at, the object you're looking at becomes inscripted with your observation of it.' this in response to my boarding-school upper bunk guy who laughed when i talked in my sleep and said he was keeping a record of everything i say in my dreams. (as you know i never went to a boarding school.) the other thing that happened in the same dream: i was making up songs really fast, inventing rhymes so clever but so fast i couldn't even catch them. and i was singing to myself in my sleep. and then i cried because i was lonely. and then the notion came that i miss my mother. which i realized was also true, and then i cried a bit more. it was then that i 'woke up' inside the dream and my bunk mate was giggling.
so: everything you think about the universe is written onto the universe. that seems to be the observation. no thought is lost, no thought is for nothing, then. and that should be reassuring for those of us who will die before we've had a chance to write everything down.
i thought that was worth writing down, because my concsious mind would never have come up with that one.
