four things i noticed
i had four observations …
• yes it's hard to explain why we need poetry and dance. and even harder to explain why we need nations.
• easy listening hurts my brain.
• we need to forgive novelists from the 1800s for writing books that were longer than necessary for beauty. concision had not yet become a literary virtue; people read because they had time. that's really no excuse for sprawling, but we need to forgive them anyway.
• without civilization, we would as of this week be either frozen dead or elsewhere. i will try to be civilized.
