fcp export mystery
i frequently export a final cut pro sequence in lossless animation codec before doing my compositing and cc in aftereffects. but today i was getting this weirdness where the exported movie thought its frame rate was 1 fps. i found that if i exported a small section of the sequence, there was no problem. i thought maybe it had something to do with the black at the beginning (leaving room for opening titles). so i tried adding a slug, and i tried literally printing a clip of black to use there. but that didn't work. as long as their was black, it was confused about its frame rate.
i found that if i insert 1 second of bars at the beginning, that made everything okay.
weirder still: this problem is not evident if you export and then print as 360p in quicktime pro. then it looks fine.
so now i need to remember, if i'm exporting a show, there needs to be something other than black at the beginning. which is really quite stupid.
