you're exporting from FCP 6 to lossless animation codec for post-processing in aftereffects
your film starts in black,
you must check keyframes: ALL in the export module dialog.
otherwise the export module will give the movie some spurious frame rate like 0,999 frames per second.
you do not have to do this if
you're exporting to some other codec like prores 422 hq
the thing you're exporting doesn't start in black.
i had been avoiding checking 'all' cuz i thought it would make the files unnecessarily huge, but that appears not to be the case: at max quality the file size is the same either way.
i wrote on facebook:
so here's the scary part: after the wave of rage passed, i kinda started to enjoy this. testing things 12 ways, figuring out which thing was really wrong.
i have been re-wired.
i think we should call it ACRALS: acquired computer-related autism-like syndrome.
now all i need are:
 a trombone
the home address of the idiot who told that export module that it's ever okay to mess with the frame rate.
remember, i'm the guy who can't play the trombone.
