'extraordinary'
i was just watching cosmos ep. 12 where carl sagan says (of UFO encounters) his famous line, 'extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.'
i agree that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. but on what basis did we decide that alien visitation is extraordinary?
i don't know of any scientists who say that it's impossible.
we have plenty of extraordinary claims. to me, extraordinary claims are more like:
• a man died and came back to life.
• god gave this piece of land to this tribe.
• aquarians tend to be creative.
• i saw a ghost.
given everything else sagan claims is true, alien visitation seems quite ordinary. why did he think it was extraordinary?
